My vid burned up today, and the only card they had in stock was this one.. I do not know diddly about ATI??
This card in good..

Has a ton of crap on it I'll prolly not use like a TV tuner, Some remote control thing, etc..etc.... I may take it back 2morrow and try and find a nvidia chip set :)

You need a GeForce FX Acedeal. Top of the Line is the 5800, very cool! :banger:

Carefull with the FX5800, it hums like a chopper!!! ATI that you have is equivalent to the 128mb nvidia based ti4600, pretty good!! :banger:

The 5900 is out now i think... It doesnt have the dustbuster attachment for cooling, but still takes up 2 slots.

The ATI card is a great card Ace, but if you want the best of the best of the best, you want the Ati Radeon 9800 Pro, or the GeForceFX 5900 Ultra

http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030512/index.html

The 5900 Ultra finally beats out the ATI 9800, but the 9800 has been out for a while. I personally like the image quality on ATI stuff, especially in 2D. ATI has always been that way, but the Nvidia stuff has always had more stable drivers.

If you dont mind the possibility of tweaking a bit, keep the 9700 you have, as it doesnt take up 2 slots, Doesnt sound like a dustbuster, and you never know when you'll need to shut your PC off with the remote :D And the performace you gain will be minimal, as that card kicks ass. But if you really dont want it, just send it to me ;-) You can have my ASUS GeForce 4 Ti4200.

And Father-Time, the 9700 Pro beats the pants off the Ti4600 when image quality is cranked, and AntiAlisasing and Anisotopic Filtering is on. Almost twice the framerates in some areas. It is also Direct X 9 compliant, if i remember correctly, the 4600 is still only 8.1. Not that it really makes a difference right now, but it will soon.

Yes, Maury got a good point, how ever, onto something he said b4.
I agree with you performance data, but it does depend on what benchmarking software you use, greatly!! How ever Having got BOTH :P :P :P ifing that the nvidia gets beaten hands down when they are factory set, but once you start to crank them up abit (Riva tuner & Hardpage respectively) the nvidia far outperforms the ATI WITH stability. One thing to note though, it can all boil down to the production run and the timing of the sale. Chipsets are produced as one single chipset (Same as CPU's) Then they are graded into 3 lots of performance baskets, if one outsells the other (Especially the lowerend) if you buy a lower end card you could end up with a high end chipset (Higher Quality) from one of the other baskets. There are peices of software out that will tell you the different codenames of the chipsets currently being used, but as you can imagine the respective companies are not happy about telling you which is which :x They need a good :stick: , but you can see there predicament!!

Just an old mans rambling's!!!

Depends on your point of view on the cars, but i think you made the right choice. If that card doesnt last more than 2 years, there is something wrong with the world.

Father, you are right. I myself do not tweak systems very much, and iespecially not video cards. If you can get the right card, you can probably overclock it/tweak it to performance levels equivalent to the higher end cards. I speak oin stock values only unles specified. Overclocking is not my specialty, and i don't pretend to know much about it. I'll let the man (Father) talk about tweaking and such. I still think you should have sent me the AIW 9700, but oh well, i guess i'll just continue dreaming.

I just like the fact that I can fit more in the Bentley and it's cusom built for me by hand and it keeps Father's economy up... :)

Besides, Ferrari's no good for either of us... we get that white flaky icy stuff round here remember....

Ace,

I got some solder and phone line left send me the old card... :)

BTW, Amazing how i turned Ace's question about vidcards into a automotive forum in 2 easy steps... LOL

And I noticed it the day it went from PFC to SFC to Honor Guard to Class Clown in a span of about 15 hours...

So you have all overbid...
