i am about to type my old year 10 shakesphere rant.
we were forced to write an essay on our views of shakesphere.
Shakesphere, old playwrite from long ago, far longer than we can imagine, one of the most famous writers in history. But is he good? or evil? today we will find out which.
He wrote the play known as "The merchant of Venice" and a number of other spectacular performances. But i am mainly focousing on the one i mentioned above. In it there is a man, known as "Shylock" the bad guy of the play, he is the only person of Jewish descent in the whole thing. His opponents, well loved and thought of christians.
He is constantly spat upon and cursed throughout, and in the end loses his wealth and daughter. In his notes shakepshere said he was there for "Comic Relief" comic relief? was medievil england this bad? was spitting upon people , insulting them, taking all their wealth through trickery and deceit, and ultimately kicking their dogs to death humourous? I think not. Anyway, back to the point, Shylock lent money to one of these so caleed "christians" and said that if he will lend him 3000 dollars, if the money is not payed back, he will take a pound of flesh.
The contract is agreed to, and all is well, but, when the deadline comes, he cannot pay! Well, Well, Well. Looks like our good friend is stuck in a very sticky mess. But No! Here she comes to save the day! His best friends wife has come, Portia! Sex goddes and queen of the fairies, comes flying in on her magical flying carpet, and in the end, rules that "Shylock" must become a christian and all his wealth taken away!
But, she was not the legal judge, so wouldnt the trial become invalid? obviously not, as people those days couldnt tell the difference between a man and a women! are these diffrences that subtle? Shakesphere also proceeds to take the micky out of the french and africans! The french guy is also, constantly put down and made to look like a blundering fool!
And the african is made out to be dirty, unwashed and quite uncivilised!
I leave you with one last thought, as my fingers are sore from typing,
is Shakesphere the founder of ancient Nazism? or something quite more cynical and evil!?
