Hi,

Im busy setting up a server over here in Blighty for AA. What sort of connections are you guys running your servers from? I'm not sure my megabit cable modem will hack it.

Thanks.

well I run a server on a 2mbit digital cable and I can only run a 4 person server :-( mind you I am running it on win98 so maybe if your running Xp it will be better!

Most of the DoW servers are Cable connections if I remember correctly, Personaly my Cable Co Blocks all Attempts I have made of hosting a AA server :(, but I'm thinking of getting a DSL connection, and trying that. It may work... :)

If you can find a DSL provider who will give you a Static I.P, it will be enough. At the beginning of my time with AAO I hosted a server with DSL for 20 people but no Static I.P.

I'm using a crapy T1 that most of the time is about half the connection of my cable modem at home. Running Mountain Pass with 12 players it doesn't seem to be too bad. At least I haven't heard any complants.

That's too bad. I'm running on cable 1.5 and it's pretty good. It's not as good as the t3 I had at college, though.

Sounds like Biegne. He's got a part-time server or two, (I think. Does he still run them now and then?) but I'm pretty sure his IP isn't static. That's one of the reasons his server might rarely have an admin, as compared to the others that do have static IPs. Without a static IP, it's a lot more difficult to log in as a admin. Here's the difference:

To log in as admin to a static IP server -

First time:

1.) Go to Report for Duty.
2.) Go to Find Online Games.
3.) Click Update.
4.) Double-click the server you're going to log into.
5.) Hit F1 once you're in, so you can see the IP.
6.) Hit TAB to open the console.
7.) Type "bind (key) open (IP):(Port)?password=(password)
8.) Hit the key you bound the command to.

Or, an alternate first-time procedure (May require pen&paper/good memory.):

1-3.) See above.
4.) Single-click on the server you're going to log into.
5.) Memorize or write down the IP displayed in the server info boxes at the bottom.
6-8). See above.

Any time after that:

1.) Hit the key that you bound the OPEN command to.

To log in as admin to a server with a dynamic IP -

EVERY TIME:

1-6.) See the above first-time procedure for Static IP.
7.) Type "open (IP):(Port)?password=(password)

Alternate (May require pen&paper/good memory.):

1-3.) See above.
4-5.) See above, alternate first-time procedure for Static IP.
6-7.) See above.

See the difference? Static IP servers require a semi-complex 8-step process to be followed only ONE TIME, and then a very simple 1-step procedure followed for every time afterwards. Dynamic IP servers, however, require a semi-complex 7-step procedure similar to the 8-step procedure for first-time logins to Static IP servers, different in only the facts that one step is skipped, and the procedure has to be repeated for EVERY LOGIN TO THE SERVER!

Now, anyone wonder why I almost never admin DoW IV?
