View Full Version : Mountain Pass Server Rules Question

Hi all,
I had a question about your rules for your Mountain Pass servers. I was told by someone (non -=DOW=-) that defense wasn't allowed to go past center hill or flank via chasm.
I have always followed this and have tried to re-enforce the rules during games with other players, but I just wanted to make sure that this is a rule and not just something that someone told me a few weeks ago.
In the Server Rules forum post, it doesn't list any specifics for MP. I know the Bridge the defensive can't go past last pillar.
Thanks,
Shur

Thanks for bringing that up.
I have been meaning to get with the crew and come up with some rules that get posted. Just need to sit down with eveyone and decide on the best play on that map.

Wow. Fast reply. Thanks a bunch for doing that stuff.
I think this rule (def not going past center hill and through chasm) is the only additional rule (other than the same as the bridge ones) that I have noticed or heard about from anyone on your MP servers.
I look forward to getting the offical rules :)
P.S. Can you make an admendment, saying that we can TK ppl that continue to use M203 and SAWs after the entire team shouts at them? At least until, votekick gets put back in the game. (just kidding, but I actually had to TK a guy after a few rounds of him nading & and saw'ing the defense).
thanks!

Yep, had to tk a guy tonight. It was on the -=DoW=- server but I still hate having to shoot my own guys. It's a shame people don't get it.

You hve to do what you have to do, I TK my own players if they are breaking rules and ther is no admin on the server to set them strate.

Well, last I knew, the Defense limits were:
No going past Center Peak.
No going in chasm. (Which would be past Center Peak, anyway.)
Free reign over Defense Ridges. (That really high one to the North, and the other one directly East of spawn.)
Those seem fair enough for me, and I think most would agree to them.
However, I do think a rule needs a little tweaking for this map. Due to its immense size, I think we should allow 3 smokes per assault here, instead of the usual 2. Also, because of its size, we may be able to get away with banning flashbangs for that map, since there's not much chance for any real combat at that range here, unless someones REALLY rushing it.
Then again, we probably shouldn't change too many rules per map. It would probably just end up confusing people. So, we'll probably only want to have the Defense Limits variable per map, and keep all other rules constant.

You have to do what you have to do.
I am glad that other players agree with my philosphopy on this. I hate it too. Since that means the next round that guy is going to nade you off-the-bat, so you loose out of playing a round yourself. But my guy left the round after he naded me. I even dropped a few m24s at our spawn for newbies (before this incident), but he just didn't want to play as a sniper.

There's a need to think about the rules.
I will start with my ideas, will you please add yours.
1. 1 Smoke nade for every soldier - assault and defense
2. no flash bangs
3. no nades
4. no autos or launchers
5. everyone can go where ever he likes to go - no limits
BUT
no rushing
The teamleader is responsable for his team. Means, he decides if you are allowed to rush. He will give the order and no one asks if he's allowed to.
In that case, not the whole team will rush, only one or two of the them. And this is not rushing, they will check out for enemies.
Just my ideas and something to think about...
We will gather all this stuff and find the best rules for us.

Smokes: Why the hell would Defense want to smoke? All it does is block the view of what's coming at them!
Flash Bangs: Eh, I could deal with that. But personally, I think they add a little more to the game. (Love the element of surprise, the look of shock on OPFORs face, when they go blind, THEN dead!)
Nades: (Assuming you mean just Frags) Well, *duh*!
Autos/Launchers: (See Above)
Free Reign of Map: It dont' make sense! If we allowed objective completion, then Defense should be staying back anyway, to defend the objective, rather than pushing the lines and running higher risk of getting flanked!
TeamLeader Responsibility: How many people have you seen on these servers who can't even SPELL "SSG", let alone play the part when the server *randomly* assigns it to them?

Smoke is helpful for defense as well. You have to think before you throw it. A little hard for some of them... hehe
This is a team based game, so why don't try to play it like a team. With team leaders and soldiers.
These are my thoughts nothing more nothing less.
I don't have to decide about the rules. All I can do, is to make some suggestions. Acedeal is the owner, master admin, dow leader etc. He decides about everything...

Smokes on D:
Not only think, but communicate. Like, who else is going to be affected by your smoke? Are they okay with it? Or do they *not* want you to throw it, etc? How many people have you seen (besides clanmembers) that actually communicate in this game?

Sorry for dragging this dead carcass of a horse out of its grave. But due to the recent reincarnation of a -=DoW=- Mountain Pass server did we ever come up with some agreed upon rules? I know Lonely enforced some rules in the past but I don't ever remember seeing anything scribed in stone or HTML for that matter.

Yeah, when the Rules moved over to the phpBB FAQ format, I included a section on map-specific Rules, which covered Bridge, Mountain Pass, and River Basin.

Looks like the rules are defined in the server rules FAQ

Night Vision Goggles will not be issued.
Boundaries
Defense is not to pass their side of the Central Peak, unless moving on the Northern-most or Southern-most ridges.
Defense is not allowed to go into the chasm whatsoever.

Assault's primary and sole objective is to eliminate all OPFOR.
Do not complete the Goals for this map.

Sounds good to me :D I wish there was a way to do a MOTD when users join to say the rules. Are you listing equipment players can't use? Like no frags, etc. Can Def use smoke?

there are MOTD lines in the Server.ini but they are usless as best I have figured out.

Somewhere in the General Rules section, (The one that applies to ALL maps.) it should mention that Defense is not allowed any grenades, and also prohibits the use of explosive weapons. (Frags, M203)
