Hey guys, it's PotatoHead...just a little note to let you all know why I am reapplying. I had my house broke into and computer was stolen. I finally just got the insurance money and was able to get a new system up and running. Hope to have my -=DoW=- Tag back soon.

Sorry to hear about your break in, I was sitting in my family room one night when my neighbor knocked on the front door, when I asked him what he wanted, he told me co come outside. I went around the side of my house with him, where he showed me a very large screwdriver, and a flashlight under the bushes, by my bedroom windows. Needless to say I was shocked. The next day, I cut the bushes down flush with the ground, and called Guardian security services. We had an alarm installed the next week, and haven't had a problem since.

I live in a very small town and we were having problems with houses being broken into. So one night while the people across the street which is kinda like a slum/ghetto were out I said very loudly,"I'm sure glad no one's broken into our house or apartments, I really don't want to get brain matter all over the walls when I blow their brains out with the .50 caliber"

It's kinda funny that the next day the guy who had been breaking into the places had the cops called on him and turned himself in after the cops came with pistols out lol. He had left town 6 months before hand to arizona because he had no job and couldn't pay rent, then he came back after supposedly having family problems. I guess his family problem was the arrest warrant he had for armed robbery. I was so shocked his slum-lord(not landlord cuz his apartments are total crap) didn't not do a background check(do you detect the sarcasm).

OK... figured it was only a matter of time...

1. Bushes - Do not obstruct windows (including basement)
2. Exterior Motion Lighting
3. Easily readable House Number (so when a suspcios party is reported the good ole boys don't just roll by your house without looking)
4. Alarms are good (for alarm companies pockets) locks and quality doors/windows are better for you. Alarm stickers work almost as well as the real thing.
5. Sometimes nosy neighbors are good, but friendly neighbors are better.
6. Radio/TV + lamp + Multiple on/off timer = a house where people are home (talk radio is good. Tv set to turn on at news times i.e noon 6 11.)

7. Contrary to popular belief, most B/E's happen between 12noon and 3pm when most people are at work, not in the dark. Thieves are lazy, they like to sleep at night, and are not gonna spend all day working on a door. They call it Breaking and entering for a reason :)

Hope these are helpful...

Sound like I've done this before.. LOL

I would like to add the following to -=DoW=- Byteme97's post.

-=DoW=- Byteme97' wrote 3. Easily readable House Number (so when a suspcios party is reported the good ole boys don't just roll by your house without looking)

Both front and back of your residence. As one of the "good ole boys" I can tell you that it is ver aggravating to be in an alley and have to count the house from the end of the block because nothing is marked. This is expecially frustrating on a long block that has a T intersection on the oppisite side from you where you can't see where the addresses change.

Also A dog helps very much. And when I say dog I don't mean an ankle biter I mean a large dog, my favorite are Labs and Shepard, but Bull Mastaff's work as well.

Very true FearBlade. I have a Lab and as long as JoeSmoe crook doesn't find his chew toy (tennis ball, tree limb, fire place log, water hose, shoe, extention cord, sock, leather brief case, plastic lawn chair, knobs to my gas grill, propane hose to my gas grill, lawn mower, weed eater, pretty much anything on either of my sons bicycles) they will become his next chew toy.

As you can see by the short list that I have in the two years that I have owned him he is an equal oppertunity chewer and does not descriminate.

My first Rottweiler had a crazy idea. She was a sweet quiet dog, which never chewed up anything (when I was looking), but as soon as I left the house, she turned off the power on the switch and chewed up the plug. Oh, and she had one more very sick idea, she only chewed in shoes with feet in them. You could place a shoe right in front of her, and she wouldnt touch it, but as soon as you put the shoe on your foot, she was there, trying to rip your leg off  Stupid dog!!

I wouldnt do that Fear. I´ve been told, that if you "cross" a Doberman with a Rottweiler, you will get a pretty weird and dangerous dog as it grows older (even to your self). It should have something to do with their psyke. I dont know if its true, but thats what I´ve been told. If you decide to do that anyway, then you better learn to sleep with your eyes open :D

I just have a sign in my yard that says "WARNING Dog can cross yard in 1.5 seconds and if you escape dog then you have to BEWARE OF HOMEOWNER WITH GUNS!! Homeowner will SHOOT first and worry about the corpse later!"

And I am the owner of a Red Heeler....dog is as nuts as I am.... broke threw a wood fence to get at a neighbor who's kid threw a baseball at him. Gee now why would a dog do that ??? (HEAVY ON SARCASM)

I have had other dogs, but am partial to Labs, I've had 4 of them in the last 20 years and like their temperment. I don't care for Pitts much, but I think that is because everyone around here raises them for fighting and not as a pet, so they don't usually like me much and like my OC spray even less. :)

I just wished I could use it on the owners more often.
