Thoughts on binocs

I haven't seen them covered in the rules. Are only leaders allowed to have them, or anyone?

I have not even gotten a chance to use the binocs, so not sure what the advantages or disadvantages are of using the mpcheat binoc..

I do not want to get so bogged down in 100's of rules that one can not keep up with what is allowed, and not.

Think about if for a sec..
If you are not leader when you start off, no you can not mpcheat binocs, but duing the game if you are promoted due to the death of teamate, then you can mpcheat binocs..


Just think of it as a pocket range finder :P

I would think that keeping up with this one is way Tooo much work........

I think the rules state that the onlyl cheats allowed are CHANGECLASS to sniper. Therefore, only the leader will be able to have binocs, as the only way to get them otherwise would be MCHEAT BINOCS, which by the current rules is not allowed.

Yes you are correct on the rules, but those rules have not been looked at since the new 1.4 / 1.5 patches.
I'm sure the rules, could use a little overhaul or a bit of tweaking.

Let's not get too bogged down of stuff that's not really going to affect game play, or theme of the servers or the other important rules.

But the question still stands, what advantage disadvanges are there for the binocs?
and does it really matter if joe recruit sits on one side of x map and uses binocs?

Once he switches back to sniper wep of choice, can he still see ya? prolly not?? While he is range finding on you, can you wax his arse...you bet

Well, the advantage to binocs is they have a slightly larger field of view, allowing you to see more zoomed in.
Another advantage is you don't have a barrel to stick out around a corner and give away your position. I've also found the binocs "jerk" less while slow crawling.
Disadvantages of using binocs are obvious, you can't shoot even if you see the enemy. If the enemy sees you with your binocs out, you can't defend yourself and you're dead.

I really see no advantage with binocs. It makes a lot more sense to just scan around with your scope. That way, you can nail a target the moment you find them.

i would have to aggre with coby, i see no advange in the binocs, i never use them even when i get them.

Only time I'd use them is if I did NOT have a sniper weapon. Other than that, it just don't make sense.

But, if people really want 'em, I see no harm in giving it to them.

My two cents...
Since most snipers have a spotter with them using a second rifle, or spotting scope (though it really isn't plausible here) I honestly see no reason in not allowing binos. It's not like they will have an advantage on range. Maybe it'll take a second or two longer to start the round, or it may get someone popped for not paying attention while they are trying to aquire a target. If these are the only real problems with it, then why not go ahead and let it go? Personally, I think it should be allowed and left up to the individual. Perhaps not. Stuff to think about.

If they want to use binoc, then i do not see it as an issue.

It really does not affect the out come of the game.. Not like Auto, smoke, flash, etc.

It will more then likely get the binoc user killed faster, as he is looking threw he binocs, you wax him. :anim_peep:flamer_:

I agree with Acedeal from personally getting my eye shot out while "stupidly" peering over to the opposite side (I don't know why whenever I join I am appointed Squad leader)...and not realizing my mellon was being targeted...the guy waited till I saw him...then and I am almost sure...He smiled and pulled the trigger...LOL (kidding about the last part that only happens in BF 1942 the rest is true...no more binocs for me)
