Anyone out here into researching/documenting Genealogy on their computer?
I just recently DLed a couple programs and started building my family tree from what I know, in a GEDCOM file. Then, I found a website (made by people I've until now not heard of) that has a tree going about 16 generations deep from me, on some generations. (Turns out sometime down the line I've got relatives in the L'Heureux family.) So, of course I'm like "Man, this is deep stuff here... I gotta have this on my database." and I started (manually) copying in data. I managed to get all my ascendants in, and started working on their descendants (my - distant - cousins) when it finally hit me exactly how huge this database is that they have. So, I e-mailed the webmaster, requesting access to the GEDCOM file that contains their database. Although I have yet to hear back from him, I came to notice that my genealogy program (GedLink, http://www.gedlink.com/) doesn't have a "merge" feature.
Soooo....
Does anyone know of a freeware program that can merge GEDCOM (v. 5.5) files?
Oh, and if some of your ancestry is in France, you might want to check out this "Index of Persons" on the L'Heureux Family Genealogy website and see if you might be related. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lheureux/lh1/persons.html
