View Full Version : Forum Bug?

I think there's a bug in the forums, or maybe it's just my computer, but here it is:

I'll make a post.
I leave the website.
I come back.
The forum/thread that I posted in is marked as having new posts, but the post I just made is the only new one.

This does not happen consistently, as it really shouldn't happen at all, but it does happen once in awhile. Any explanation?

Do you click the "view your post now," after you submit it or do you just close the window? If you're just submiting and then leaving it might not mark it as read. I do have a problem evey now and then where it will mark a post as having been read when it really hasn't.

There is only one man that can help us:

Sometimes I just click the link that takes me back to the forum index. But I haven't really noticed much any specific circumstances under which it does/does not occur. Just seems to be random.

As far as things being read which really haven't. There is one thing that does bug me. If you take a look at the forum index, then close IE, then open up the index again, everything that was marked as having new posts the first time, is marked as having no new posts the second time, even though you haven't read a thing.

The first number is the number in rank, sorted descending by post count. The string after that is a screen name. The second string is Location, if entered in profile. The third string is the Join Date, and the last 3-digit number is current post count.

Not sure what problems you guys are having, but I think you need to be a little smarter then the tool you are operating

You read some messages, enter new message.. when done log out, or use the "Mark All Topics as Read" then log out.

If you are not loging out, after reading stuff, then the cookies are not updated, and those messages are still marked as not being read.

Other then that, not much else I can do..

I'm only behind AceDeal 'cause half the carpet in my room was soaked for a week. And, it's possible that I may re-format my machine in the near future, and that's going to put me out for a day or two, which would put me even further behind. But y'allz still have a bit to go to even consider catching up to me!

Come on Coby, you are telling me that 20 minutes worth of putting your os back on is going to keep you from checking into the forum for any real length of time?

-=DoW=- SmokieRat

I just hafta say :banger: 300 :banger: and a new rank. Ooo.

IsZi

With me, it's a whole-day project. Not just putting the OS back on, but making sure all the software I wanted to keep gets re-installed, and properly configured. And then, consider what I have to do to get my WIFE's user working the way she wants it!!! Oh, and that's assuming it doesn't take me too long to figure out the ICS configuration, and how to make my machine into a full-function router with 24/7 uptime no matter what I run. (In other words, not allowed to crash for ANYTHING!)

Oh yeah, and consider the DL time for all the Windoze updates again!

Coby you mean you don't save all your setup progys. Especially the big ones (SP3 latest graphics drivers, DX9, etc.) to a CD-R. I have all my needed setups in a folder and when I do a format it takes me about 2 hours to go from "format c:/" to "ipconfig". And just in case I've got a drive image backup file on a drive that sits in my case unplugged until I want to update it or revert back to it. And on top of that I run a mirrored raid array :_pcuser:

IsZi

I DL all the necessary programs immediately prior to re-format, to make sure they're all up-to-date, since the ones I have installed aren't always updated regularly. Then, yes I burn them. Just got some CD-RW's specifically for that purpose.

Mschadt
February 19th, 2003, 01:25
ah, I have all my setup for everything. I get sick of trying to find where I got the program or that. It's a real pain in the pants when you have a bunch little utility progys that are so useful and yet so hard to find.

IsZi
February 19th, 2003, 01:42
Oh, I've got most things in an INSTALL folder, for quick access. I just prefer to find the site if I can, and get the most recent updated software version.

TR-JustinMc06-
February 19th, 2003, 20:41
same here, took me about 6-7 hours to reformatte everything last time i did it, have to put the OS back on which takes about 1-2 hours then tons of software and a lotta stuff that i have to download and install.

IsZi
February 19th, 2003, 21:31
Putting the OS back takes 2 hours? Or the re-format itself? I feel sorry for people with 100+ GB HDD's who re-format often.

February 19th, 2003, 22:02
do quick re-format

TR-JustinMc06-
February 20th, 2003, 19:28
well it is the OS plus all the programs that came with the computer and everything, 5 or 6 disks worth of stuff, o, and the driver, plus the time in finding all the disks.lol

i have only done it twice, 20GB hard drive that i reformate, but i have another 100GB that i leave alone
