At one point I thought the chasm was off limits to all but have found out different. Anyone else support making a change to the rules? If I had a map editor there would be landmines and barbwire there by now.

As I said to Mschadtt on icq when this came up "....I think closing it to all is the right way to go- I dont think they teach u to crawl exposed across half a mile of snow at the bottom of a valley at sniper school...."

I have played played up till now under the wrong rule (i.e. closed to all) and find that assault can win just as often as defence

Don't know why I didn't think about it when I wrote those map rules. The only thing the Valley (aka Chasm) is useful for, for either team, is flanking. And, as we all know, flanking tactics can only result in CQC (Close-Quarters Combat, for the uninitiated). And that, of course, is a big no-no for snipers.

My vote is that the Valley be marked off limits for both Assault and Defense.

I seldom play MP but that does make loads of sense. Make it off limits to both. The times I've played it it never helped me or anyone to go through the chasm, except make you a dark target on a white background with no cover.

Yep, i would have to say off limits too, pretty dumb to go in there for snipers

I agree, make the chasm out of bounds. I would also prefer to get rid of smokes, but I don't think too many people would be in favor of that.

the smoke on the MP is ok, as it is such a big map.
But i will be making the changes to the rules about the chasm/valley for you guys..

Might as well make it bright yellow smoke in this map, as all it does is give away the rough area to look for you. I don't use it, and unless you're trying to achieve the map objective, I can't see its use!

distraction. If I am sitting in the high northwest corner, and i throw a smoke down and to my right, i cause the assault to look in that direction for me as i sit high and try to snipe them. yes, the good snipers will not be fooled, but in case you haven't noticed, a lot of people playing on mountain pass have no clue.

Yeah, I saw one slick guy running down the main assault road on -=DoW=- 2 last night. Before turning to head for the Center Peak, he twisted around and tossed a smoke up onto the Assault Ledge. Now that'll throw anyone off, even for a second. And that second can help a lot in the end.
