I'm looking to buy a KVM switch for my two systems. Whats the best company/manufacture to use/purchase?

//EDIT//

Do they make them for use with USB mice/keyboards or are they strictly PS/2?

Belkin would be at the top of my list, and yes, they do make them for USB, although you would likely end up using a converter to PS2 for the keyboard, depending on the model. Belkins Pricey though, id look at some D-Links as well, and make sure they have the option to store CAPS lock, num lock, etc per port, that will allow for simultaneous booting of both systems. I currently have an unpowered switch i got for 40$ a couple of years ago, and i HATE it. Looking to get something along what ive just described sometime in the near future.

Belkin is what I have at home and what we use at work both the AC powered and the PS/2 powered kind in everything from 2 ports to 16 port rack mount kvm's.

With whichever KVM you buy make sure it comes with cables as some of the cheaper ones don't and then you pay $15-$30 for a decent set of cables.

The belkin I have at home does serial mouse or ps/2 mouse and I have used it with linux and windows OS's.

Silber make sure which ever KVM you get you also leave room to expand on it as well. As in my opinon it is better to pay the extra few dollars more now than to pay alot more later on.

I assume you guys are using PS/2 KVMs. I'm not reading good things about the USB KVMs may have to ditch my Optical/USB mouse

Ron, I could help here, but be prepared to get expensive...

I have found a 4 port USB KVM switch.

Technische Daten: Max. Grafikauflösung: 1920 x 1440 Pixel bis 200 MHz · Anschlüsse: Eingänge 2x PS/2, 2x USB (für Tastatur und Maus), 4x VGA 15pol., 4x USB · Ausgänge 3x USB (Hub), 1x VGA 15pol. Lieferung erfolgt ohne Anschlusskabel.

*edit* errrm, you can read a little german I hope?? *edit*

I dont know whether that helps. I can offer it to you for :

200 Euros !!

No, it should have come with a USB - PS/2 converter if it was a logitech or microsoft mouse. If not, look for one :). WOrks just the same on PS/2 as it does USB.

PS2 KVM switches are best, as is Belkin that what i use, one thing to make sure is that it supports the high resolution graphics that you run your games on. My belkin was purchased with the higher grade leads which is where the problems lies i believe - bottom line if you are going kvm switch route do not be stingy on the leads otherwise you will regret it.
