Is there a way a lighter version of phpBB can use this database?

This Extreme phpBB forums are really slow on my end, and I'm seeing as much as 50 SQL queris executing at once. (Takes about 5 minutes to move between page to page, and no, this part of the Silicon Valley doesn't have DSL.)

PHBbb will be releasing a new version soon.. 2.2. All new everything.
one of the reasons it has slowed down, smokie and I have added approx 50 + extra fields to the user_tables.. not the best way to do what we are doing, but it works for now..


Long as page loads stay under 2.5 secs' I'm happy.. Specially with as many mods / hacks as this thing has..
I'll dork around with the my.cnf see if I can add some extra mem to it , etc,etc..
