PC Configuration

I move to the US to complete my undergrad in the middle of August.
The first thing I will need is a new PC :D

My university has suggested the following configuration --

Pentium IV 2.8GHz + with 800MHz front side bus
512MB of RAM
40GB hard drive
512K level 2 cache
64MB Video Card
17" .26 Dot Pitch Monitor
10/100BaseT/TX - Ethernet adapter (RJ-45) network card
CD-RW/DVD combo drive

I am looking at a price range of $750 to $900 (max).
What I would like you guys to do is to play around with the
above configuration and come up with whatever you feel
would be the best.

If anyone could give an approximate cost it would really help me out.
I have already spoken to Resqman and hes given me a rough idea,
if any of you are in this bussiness and could give me an idea of how much my parents will have to spend I would really appreciate it.

Also if anyone could recommend where (branded or assembled or should I assemble it myself) I should purchase the items from it would be very helpful. I have only been to the US once in my life and that was only for a fortnight.

If so then the 64 video card wont work to well.

Yeah everything seems to be cool except for the video card though if you ain't going to play it gonna be fine.

Whre in the States will you be living? School? Major in? Am checking on PC's here in NY. We have a lot of discount shops. Will advise.

I havent really made up my mind to precisely where I will be going .... I have a been excepted to about 10 schools which is why I am having a hard time to decide.

I am going to Major in CS and am planning on doing a Minor or a double major in MIS.

Has anyone here heard of a school called WPI (Worcestor Polytechnic Institute) ....
(Its a private school so i doubt anyone would have heard of it ... thats precisely why i am asking :-?: )

WPI is up in Massachusets I think I have seen that name before can remember where though.

as to a computer look at dell and ibm ... both have websites you should be able to get that exact system in your price range with a better video card for gaming.
