Love the title of this place, AceDeal!
The name of the game is "Dark Wizardry". Here's the link to game info:
http://www.darkwizardry.com/
No download is really needed to play the game, as it is done through TELNET, which comes with all versions of Windows. If you want to have features such as command aliases, world mapping, etc, there are links on that site to some great MUD clients.
Best MUD client I've used so far, however, is not listed. It's a freeware program called AL Client, and has most of the features that normally are only found in payware clients. Here's the link for that:
http://www.ashavar.com/client/
And, another link to the "Unofficial Dark Wizardry Site", which has some bits of info that can be useful (Such as directions around to some places.) or just nice to know (Like the list of Immortals, or the Clan List).
http://www.quadreb.com/DW/
Here's a little clip from the homepage at Quadreb:
In case you are wondering, "What the heck is DW?", here's your answer. DW is a MUD (Multi User Dungeon). For the uninitiated, a MUD is a textual based game that allows you to interact with other players while having a hell of a lot a fun. DW is the best MUD out there. Now, if you don't believe me, go play DW. You'll never go back (unless you're a transvestitesque sado-masochistic fool)
If you're interested in the game, but are new to MUDs, here's my advice:
Read EVERYTHING on the DW website. ( http://www.darkwizardry.com/ ) There's a lot there, yes, but it's all good to know stuff. At the very least, read up on the "Newbie Tips", "Races", "Classes", "Other Systems", and "Basic Area Information" which can be found under "Misc". Also, make extensive use of the "help" command when you're in the MUD, to find out what things do. Also, when you're in the MUD, you can usually "gossip" out a question, and someone else online will help you out.
If anyone wants to find me on there, I'm usually on after 0500 Zulu. Screen name is Cobywan. Send a tell to me and I'll help ya where I can. (I've only been playing a week, so I don't quite know "everything" yet.)
