Not sure what I did, but my computer REALLY made me mad so I formatted.

I reinstalled AAO but now I have a big problem. It keeps giving me this error:
Error setting display mode: CreateDevice failed (D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE). Please delete your armyops.ini file if this error prevents you from starting the game.

History: UD3DRenderDevice::UnSetRes <- CreateDevice <- UD3DRenderDevice::SetRes <- UWindowsViewport::TryRenderDevice <- UWindowsViewport::OpenWindow <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine

What does that mean? Anybody have a D3DERR I can borrow?

Try this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/archive/default.asp?url=/archive/en-us/directx9_c/directx/graphics/reference/d3d/constants/D3DERR.asp

Maybe reinstall DirectX?

Hey Mark I got the same problem when my video driver was not installed with the correct drivers. Reinstall your video drivers.

Is your video card working properly? I had the same error.

It was till I messed with it  .
I couldn't get all the ATI files off, and thought that was causing it to lock up in game. I formatted, cause I got REALLY mad at it. now I'm having all sorts of problems. The card didn't have a disk so I went to NVidia. The most up-to-date driver isn't good with 3d. I downloaded an apparently later version and it is good with 3d, but terrible with everything else. Is there a way to combine the best of 2 drivers?
Remember who your talking to before answering that question. :-?:

First lets figure out exactly what card you have. If its a RADEON go to ATI's website and get the latest Catalyst drivers. If its a GeForce got to Nvidia's website and grab their Detonator Drivers.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_61.77

for windows XP or 2000

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_61.76

for Windows 98 or ME

Dowload the driver, run it, reboot, and see what happens.

The detonator driver is just a name, but its the software that makes your video card work.

Good luck. :)

I tried that file, didn't work.
I found another file on another site that seems to work better, now the computer just locks up instead of giving an error.

Well, drivers are specific per chip, so it depends on that file.

try this, install it, and email/post/PM me the detailed results. We'll see if we can't get this figured out.
