For all those who've been wondering, I've finally gotten around to actually sitting down, turning on the hardware monitor, and opening up the forums to give you my system stats.

All of the below is running at 100% processor load:

Temperature: 65 C

Voltages
======
VCore: 1.74-1.78, usually on 1.76, but fluctuates occasionally.
+3.3V: Fluctuating between 3.10 and 3.15
+5V: Fluctuating between 4.68 and 4.73
+12V: Fluctuating between 12.24 and 12.36
-12V: Fluctuating between -13.01 and -12.77
-5V: Fluctuating between -5.54 and -5.39
5VSB: 5.07, sometimes bounces to 5.10
VBAT: Fluctuates from 3.25 to 3.26

Fan Speed bouncing between 5273 and 5625
Also got 2 case fans, but no monitor on those. One in front, one back.
No chipset fan, (didn't come with one) just a heatsink.

CPU is showing as AuthenticAMD - AMD Athlon (Model 4)
Type: 0 Family: 6 Model: 4 Stepping: 2 CPU VCore Reference: 1.3V
Speed: 1257 (I didn't tweak it, I swear! Thing just likes to run fast.)

Memory info
========
Total: 1048052 KB Available: 805596 KB
Virtual Memory Total: 2097024 Available: 2065956

I should mention the Negative Voltage lines are a pain to read since they keep dropping below the monitor's low limit (-13V and -5.5V, respectively).

Just killed Seti@Home for a few seconds and dropped one and a half degrees Celsius in temperature, might be trying to drop a little more but that's where it is now. Wish this damn thing came with a Farenheit option.

I'm gonna look up my little chart, but those negative lines dont sound so good coby.

IF you want to get a cpu fan...look on www.pricewatch.com
You can find a really good set-up for AMD on there.

I have an AMD 1800+ (1529) but it likes to run at 1564. Not a big jump, just showing that my cpu doesn't like running at normal speed either. I get an average temp of 52 C with the stock cooler.

A lot of times its the motherboard that is doing it. It may advertise a 133MHz FSB, but run anywhere between 131 - 135 by default.

Heres my acceptable limits chart

5Volt +/- 4.5 - 5.5
12Volt +/- 10.8 - 13.2
3.3Volt +/- 3.1 - 3.5

As for Vcore, i dont think it should fluctuate at all... but im not really sure about that.

Do you have access to anothe AMD approved power supply Coby? If so, give it a try, and see if anythings a little more stable.

Unfortunately, I'm not like my dad, who has a decent stock of extra (albeit mostly old) parts in his garage to test stuff with. Hopefully this little baby will hold together long enough 'till I can get 'er some better parts.

I have a GigaByte board. It came with this nifty little program - Easy Tune 4. It's a software based overclocking utility. Controls the FSB, Multiplier, AGP, RAM, and PCI speeds. Also allows one to alter the CPU, RAM, and AGP voltages. It's a fun little toy, but you have to be careful with it as the settings are very REAL.

Yeah, my BioStar came with something like that, too. But I don't screw with it.

I have an ASUS and I've OC'd my CPU from 1799 to 2160 and it runs stable and fast.

mmmmmmm ASUS...... :icon_dro:

Would've gotten an ASUS, but the only ones the store had when I needed it were all DDR-RAM boards, and all I've got is PC133

What are some peoples thoughts on RDRAM. I have a Gateway 1.3 P4, 400MHz FSB with 640Megs of PC800 RDRAM and a Dell 2.4 P4, 533 FSB with 256 PC1066.

Well, I've been a little out of the loop in the Hardware world for a bit, but last I could tell, I think RDRAM was on its way to the grave.

I heard that too a while ago, but its still around. In fact, most computer makers (Dell, Alienware, Gateway, etc.) use it on the top of line systems with the fastest CPU speeds that are currently out.

DDRAM mainly is spported by Athlon boards
RDRAM is mainly a P4 board thing.

DDRAM is so cheap now coby (PC2100 512mb $69.99) I don't know why you don't buy some!

Gigabyte rock, biostar suck somewhat, I have a biostar board and my voltages fluctuate alot too plus the system temp is high (62 degrees celcious)

Well, RDRAM is definately on its way out. Although SIS is now creating chipsets for RDRAM. The New Chipsets from intel replace the RDRAM with Dual CHannel DDR SDRAM. RDRAM is still superior in some ways, but expensive, and, soon to be non-existant. There was only RDRAM For P4, but intel did create chipsets that supported DDR SDRAM, SDR SDRAM, as well as all the other usual suspects, like SIS, VIA, Ali, etc. Great place to check some of this stuff out:

I'm more interested in getting a better sound card. Once my family move into the house we are trying to get. I'll rebuild my system. And NO I'm not getting into specifics. I'll just say that I'm running a Duron800 with alot of pc100 ram. And only have trouble in some spots of maps. Soundcard first then a general rebuild. When the time comes I'll get some advice from y'all. But needs of the family and all that.

Sounds like what's happening is RDRAM is just pricing itself out of the market, then. Oh, and why I don't buy some DDR? My wife and I are kinda unemployed at the moment.

Only reason I got BioStar was because it was the only board that had what I needed AND could take what I already had.

The problem with RAMBUS and Intel was that they went ahead with RDRAM without being approved by JEDEC, which is the standards organization that governs Memory, well, standards :) THere was a big hubbub, the prices were too high, and it just wasnt accepted as mainstream as DDR.

How to check CPU temperature

Go to your BIOS (press DEL while computer starts)
Then check out the "HARDWARE MONITOR"

My stats :

Vcore : 1.744V

Ya, that kinda, sorta didn't work. I tryed pressing "Delete" and the "Del ." button on the numpad. nither of them worked. And do i do it like what XP is loading? or when there is that black screen telling you that memory, CPU, ect. is ok?

-=DoW=- MauryMac
May 3rd, 2003, 22:40
the black screen with memory, cpu, etc.
also, seeing that it is a sony, it may be a different key you need to press. Some are F1, F2, but it should tell you what you need to do to enter setup.

Coby, what program did you use to get all that info in your first post up top.
That is a seeeeerriooooouuuuussssssss amount of info.
P,s i got gigabyte board too, easytune 4 is cool but very dangerous.

Argh... I'd tell ya if I could remember. When my computer is working again, I'll look it up if I don't remember first.

I just have an Audigy Platinum myself. The sound system may not be THE best, but with 5.1 surround at 200W can a person really argue? Once I get a decent cooling system (other than stock OEM for the XP) I'll be OC'ing it and see what happens. I think it may be time though to upgrade the FSB and jump to 333MHz. Unfortunately this means new DDR as well.

You saying DDR is a bad thing?
I'd love to be able to put some of that in my machine.
Only one small problem...

So you would prefer SD ram over DDR? hmmm.....

I love my DDR. With my new board it transfers twice as fast. Dual Channel DDR. drool......

Yes, same here, DDR is great, i am thinking about gettin another 512 MB of it :)

No, no no!!! DDR is good, but mine can't handle the fsb upgrade. Right now I have PC2100 in here (up to 200MHZ fsb). So that'll need to be replaced.

I have a Audigy Plat myself, and the prices on them are coming down. Toasted the card on mine and got a replacement for $50 plus shipping. They are well worth the money.
