A good fomula to follow in regards to subnetting if you need to know how many IP's are available in any given subnet.
Example
192.168.1.0 255.255.255.252
Take the last octet in the subnet (here being 252). Subtract that number from 256.
So 256 - 252 = 4
So this 30 bit subnet gives you 4 ip addresses, two useable. Keep in mind that every subnet reserves one IP for a network address and one for a broadcast address.
Hope this helps

Thanks guys.
I did find the problem after posting here. Now its just a case of trying it in the field.
Im going to use 255.255.255.224
the first group of PCs (3) will have the ip 192.168.2.32,42,52
The other PCs will have the ips. 64-95
and the router will be set at 192.168.2.96
The default gateway will then be 192.168.2.96
Hope this is going to work.
Guess its then time to start reading up about subnetting again ;-)
